FACT-FINDING COMMITTEE VISITS KANAM LGA TO INVESTIGATE ROOT CAUSES OF BANDITRY.

The Plateau State Government, out of concern for its people, has constituted a ten-member high-powered fact-finding committee to investigate the incessant attacks, killings, and destruction of Plateau communities from 2001 to 2025.

The committee’s mandate is to identify the root causes of the problems affecting Plateau State communities.

The committee’s composition is based solely on merit and the credibility of its members, with nine members from outside Plateau State and one indigene of Plateau State serving as the committee secretary.

The committee is chaired by Major General Rogers Ibe Nicholas, with Barr. Timothy Baba Parlong as the secretary, supported by eight security experts. The committee paid a courtesy visit to the Executive Chairman of Kanam Local Government Council, Hon. Salihu Ayuba Musa, at his office in Dengi around 9:50 am.

They were received by Hon. Aliyu S. Aliyu, the Council Deputy Chairman, and Hon. Salome P. Madaki, the Executive Secretary. The team subsequently held closed-door meetings with the local government’s security chiefs and executive leadership. They also visited the Paramount Ruler’s Palace, where the Emir of Kanam, His Royal Highness Dr. Muhammad Mu’azu Muhammad II, received them. Community leaders, youth and women leaders, and district heads expressed their grievances to the team, recounting their negative experiences.

The Emir of Kanam attributed the banditry in the area to economic factors, chieftaincy disputes, political influence, overstaying of security personnel, and a get-rich-quick mentality. He emphasized the need for equitable justice in the distribution of resources and implementation of past committee recommendations.

He thanked Governor Mutfwang for his concern and efforts to listen to the people’s plight.Recently, Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang dispatched another delegation led by his Chief Security Officer to the affected area of Kukawa, and today, another committee embarked on a fact-finding mission to identify the root cause of the problems.

Governor Mutfwang’s actions demonstrate his commitment to fighting insurgency in Plateau State. We, the people of Kanam Local Government Area, are grateful for the governor’s concern and efforts to address our problems.
